Fans wait outside Staples Center after being evacuated before police apprehended a knife-wielding man who ran onto the court prior to tipoff.
Dispite all of the great sports action this weekend, this story has been headlining Saturday morning. Los Angeles police engaged in a stanoff lasting over one hour with a knife-wielding man on the court floor of Stapes Center.
Arena security quickly surrounded the man when they realized the situation. About 25 guards surrounded the man until Los Angeles police arrived. They ended up tackling and detaining the man at 11:20 a.m. local time after the suspect made a attempt to escape.
Fans and players waited patiently for the scuffle to be over. Players were able to watch the drama unfold safely from the locker room TVs. There was no delay on the game starting time due to the LA Kings playing the Anaheim ducks at 7:30 p.m. local time.
