The New Jersey ACLU has launched their “Police Tape” App which records audio and/or video of an encounter. The App securely and discreetly records and stores interactions with the police, as well as provide informaton about citizens’ rights.
The Police Tape runs in the background and automatically sends content to a secure server. The idea behind this is to place the recording in a safe place where it can’t be altered or deleted by police officers. It seems like a bit of a overkill, however could prove to be useful during a police stop or arrest.
The most useful feature of the App has to be the legal information it provides. This helps citizens’ fully recognize and understand their rights when interacting with the Police.
The App is currently available on Google Play, and will come to the iPhone App Store soon.
